A Safe Environment Determines Your Family’s Long Term Health

We’ll take care of your home so you can focus on your life

The Problem

Our homes are only inspected when we buy them.

Unfortunately, our homes are not as safe as buildings in the outside world. Public spaces such as schools, restaurants and stores have codes that are inspected and enforced annually. These inspections continually test smoke detectors, onsite First Aid kits and a litany of other, necessary, mandated and safety mechanisms. In your home, this happens one time — at the time of purchase. Beyond that, there’s nothing. You are expected to keep your home safe, whether it’s after 1, 5, or 20 years after purchase. Many home accidents and deaths occur because the owners never updated these safety mechanisms.

The Solution

Let Us Ensure Your Home is Up To Code.

IonHomeWellness creates home wellness kits that will send you the fire extinguishers, smoke detector batteries and First Aid Kits are delivered when you need to replace them. We also give you recommendations on the number of detectors and fire extinguishers your home will need.

Home Safety FAQs

How many smoke and carbon detectors should I have in my home?

The National Fire Protection Association recommends smoke alarms installed inside every bedroom, outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home, including the basement. This means a 2 story, 3 bedroom house needs a minimum of five smoke alarms.

How many fire extinguishers should my home have?

Ion Home Wellness recommends at least two. One in your kitchen, where most home fires start, and one in your bedroom, hallway or near where you sleep. Many people have a fire extinguisher in their kitchen, as they should, but the majority of people do not have one on the second floor, and even less have one near where they sleep.

How often should I replace my fire extinguisher?

Your fire extinguisher should be replaced after it’s been used, or after 5 years.  If you can’t remember when you purchased your fire extinguisher, you should replace it. It’s better safe than sorry.

How often should I replace my First Aid Kit?

You should replace your First Aid Kit depending on usage. If you have a family who is going through the stages of life where there are constant bumps, scrapes and bruises and you are using it frequently, it is best to replace if every 1 to 2 years. If you live alone or use it very infrequently, its contents won’t expire for 3-5 years. However, we recommend replacing the entire First Aid Kit 5 years after purchase, even if you haven’t fully used its contents.

How often should I test my smoke detectors?

You should test your all your house’s smoke detectors every 6 months. Smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors must be tested every 6 months. All detectors have a ‘TEST’ button which you need to press to let it a cycle through. Depending on the manufacturer, this test will reveal if the battery needs to be changed.

How often should I replace my smoke and CO detector batteries?

It is recommended that you replace batteries to your smoke and CO detectors every 6 to 12 months. Ion Home Wellness suggests you get all of your detectors on the same battery change out schedule, which should not exceed every 12 months. Even if your detector doesn’t alert you to change its batteries, you should still replace them after a year.

What type of batteries are included in an Ion Home Wellness kit?

Ion Home Wellness offers both types of batteries used by standard smoke detectors: one 9 Volt battery or two AA batteries. We have deliberately and specifically chosen Kidde batteries so you can easily set them aside for their specific purpose instead of using them for a remote or kids toy.
